Family Enterprise USA Talks with Wedgewood Events’ Founder and CEO on Working with Private Equity Investors

WASHINGTON, D.C., Aug 19, 2025 – How private equity can be used to take a family business to the next level is the focus of a new “Voice of Family Business on Capitol Hill” podcast, presented by Family Enterprise USA.

The podcast, entitled “How to Build a Family-Owned Business and Win with Private Equity,” features John Zaruka, Founder, and his son Bill Zaruka, Chief Executive Officer, of $250 million Wedgewood Weddings and Events, the country’s largest wedding events company.

The podcast is now available on Spotify, and other podcast platforms. It can also be found at: www.familyenterpriseusa.com/podcast

The conversation with the Zarukas details the growth of Wedgewood, the family journey, how private equity helped it reach the next level of success, and how it can help entrepreneurs professionalize, scale with less risk, and provide opportunities for employees.

Positive Private Equity

The conversation details the positive experience private equity played in the family-owned business’s nationwide growth, the family journey, and how private equity helped it reach the next level of success.

“It takes money to grow a business like ours,” says Bill Zaruka about finding the right private equity firms. “We looked at various options and started making calls, and we found three that looked like a good fit culturally,” he says. “The one we picked was not only a money partner, but helped us professionalize, this is what got us to where we are today.”

Another key component to finding the right partner is having a strong legal team behind you, according to founder John Zaruka.

If you work with private equity, make sure you have a strong legal advocate,” the senior Zaruka says. “You need an mergers and acquisition specialist to make it work,” he said.
